In a recent study carried out by the International Data Corporation, it was demonstrated that untidy and dirty workplaces cost businesses millions of dollars in lost productivity. This research was supported by a study carried out by Princeton University, which showed that clutter makes it more difficult for people to focus on completing particular tasks. More-specifically, the researchers found that the brain’s visual cortex is easily overwhelmed by task-irrelevant objects and clutter, making it difficult to allocate attention and complete tasks in an efficient manner.
