ABOUT
THE ATLAS NAME
Our guiding principle is embedded in the company name. In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan who was responsible for bearing the weight of the heavens on his shoulders. Like Atlas, we believe our company and our people are responsible for bearing the burden of our customers’ worlds, their entire buildings and everything within them.
But there is another, more important reason why the company bears this name, which has to do with the novel Atlas Shrugged, penned by Ayn Rand in 1957, which had a profound impact on the company founders and who espoused the philosophical principles described in the book and by Ayn Rand herself. Her philosophy “in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."
